Meet a Sterling Virginia Animal Prosthetist
Derrick Campana, a Sterling, Virginia native and CEO of Animal Ortho Care has made animal prosthesis for animals such as Angel Marie (a mini horse), Motala (an elephant that lost one of his limb due to land mines) and many more. He has even made prothesis for exotic animals such as goats and lambs. In this PBS News Hour, we get a glimpse of his work.
Prosthetist for Giant Creatures
On The Great Big Story Network, meet Dr. Therdchai Jivacate (an orthopedic surgeon) and Mosha, an elephant, that lost her leg in a landmine injury along the Thailand-Burmese border. Dr. Therdchai Jivacate, the founder of The Prostheses Foundation of Thailand designed the very first prosthetic leg that has ever been constructed for an elephant. According to The Harvard Business Review, Dr. Jivacate has provided more than 25,000 prosthetic limbs to amputees in remote areas, selling them for just 1 percent of their normal price."The Great Big Story Network" raves about his work in their issue titled, “Mending the Leg of a Giant.”
